Features of the Ancestry Tree
The ancestry is in the form of a tree. Click a line with a ▶ to see the person's parents' information. Click a line to hide the parents' information.
A ∇ indicates that the line cannot be expanded or collapsed. That's because there was no more data on familysearch.org for the person' parents.
The strings of Fs and Ms followed by a colon, before each person's name, indicates the sequence of Father and Mother lines of the display that you've opened to get to that person.
Following the Fs and Ms is the name of the Father or Mother at the above, one level less indented, person.
This is followed by a comma and the birth and death dates of the person, separated by a dash. Sometimes that information isn't available and you'll see "?" and "Deceased" for the birth and death dates respectively.
The link at, or toward, the end of a line will take you to information on the person at familysearch.org. For that to work you must be logged into your free account at http://www.familysearch.org
If you're not, the link will take you to the familysearch.org log in page where you can log in or create a free account. The familysearch.org page will open in another window or tab.
Some lines, those for women, have a button. This makes it easy to see the father of the person for whom this woman was the mother. Click the button to move the father line to the top of the screen.
If available, the next line will contain information on where the person was born, died, or something additional as the line indicates.
How to Use This Page
To just begin exploring, you may want to open one line at a time, following the ancestry line of the father or mother of each ancestor.
If you want to find someone or something you have a couple options:
You can click the and show everyone. Then you can simply look or use your browser's search commands.
Typically on Windows Control-f will prompt you for something to find and Control-g will find the next occurrance.
On a Macintosh it's typically Command-f and Command-g respectively.
This type of search will not find anything that you can't see on the web page. That's why you must first click
I have also provided a simple search that you can use to find the occurances of whatever you type in the box before the button.
This will find things that are not showing so you do NOT NEED TO EXPAND the whole tree first.
This search will expand just the nodes in the ancestry tree needed to find all occurrances of what you typed, such as "Sarah Tait" or "of England"
The first instance found will be put at the top of the screen. Expandable name lines are searched first, then non-expandable, then additional information lines, then links.
Sorry, but I have not provided any way to get from one find to the next. You can use C-f and C-g for that since all occurrances will be visible.
If you come to a line that, when expanded, shows "UNFINISHED" you have come to a place where there is more information but either it was suspect or, more likely,
I just didn't have time or the inclination to follow it any further. You can look at familysearch.org or elsewhere to follow the ancestry further. Or leave me a note at the
bottom of this page and I'll expand the ancestry as you request, within reason, when my time permits. Send me an email if you're in a hurry.
Reliability of Information Here
This information comes primarily from www.familysearch.org, or occasionally from www.wikitree.com or www.wikipedia.com, which are all free web sites. In creating this page I have not personally verified the information
presented. Where I noticed that familysearch.org information looked particularly unlikely I have most often stopped following
the line of ancestors, or sometimes used another source. For instance, such unlikely situations would include children born
when their parents were under 10 years of age or situations where there was a line of ancestry with 3 Johns in a row and the
grandchild was called "John II" or "John Jr.".
